What is 3D printer filament?
Answer
Filament for 3D printing is the material used in desktop 3D printers that use fused filament fabrication (FFF) or fused deposition modeling (FDM) techniques to create objects. Filament is usually a thermoplastic and comes on a spool that can be loaded on to a 3D printer. Polylactic acid (PLA), acrylonitrile butadine styrene (ABS), polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) are common types of 3D printing filaments that are used in the UAB Libraries.
The UAB Libraries do not permit the use of conductive, metal, carbon fiber or wooden filaments in the 3D printing spaces.
