Why can't I select or search text from certain Interlibrary Loan (ILL) article when I receive it as a PDF?

A print article must be scanned using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software in order to be searchable. Most articles you receive through ILL were not scanned using OCR technology and are therefore not searchable. Some articles you receive through ILL may be fully searchable, so you should always double check.
